The Start of My Journey….
“Dreams don’t work, unless you do.” -anonymous. I have always worked for my money whether it was doing my weekly chores, or babysitting for my aunt. I always had some little job to earn money. I understand what hard work is, and what earning it feels like. The world that I come from has taught me the value of hard work and what comes from it.
My name is Sabrina Martinez and I’m currently a senior in high school, I’m also the oldest of five siblings. My mom is the one who has pushed me to this point, and I couldn’t be any more thankful for that. She always used her life examples, to prove and show me what not to do in life. I feel like that motivated me tremendously, I didn’t want the same life for myself. I want to accomplish much more than what my parents have accomplished. There are four more siblings of mine growing up right behind me that are watching me and I need to be a good example for them.
Walking through the gates of the high school I didn’t know one thing about college. Of course I knew I wanted to go to college, but I didn’t know the steps to get me there. As a freshman in high school my classes were everywhere I didn’t know anything about “pathways”. One of my mistakes through high school was not getting more involved, or being more on what I wanted to do for the future. In the middle of my junior year is when I started to think twice about the things I did. The teachers at Lindsay High School really motivate their students to want to go to college. I started to set goals for myself, like staying on pace and coming to school everyday. I have people to prove wrong, and by doing that I’m going to graduate on stage with my class. A piece of advice I would give others is to push themselves everyday to accomplish the goals they set for themselves. Once they accomplish their goals, more doors and other opportunities start coming coming your way.
The world shaped me into following my dreams. It seems that people today only focus on making money. I feel like we should care for those around us just as much as we care for the money we get for working with them. I want to be the person that actually cares for their job and cares for others feelings. Especially, because I’m able to work for my own money, and I’m earning it on my own too. I am excited to finish high school so that I can began my journey in becoming a psychiatric nurse.
In conclusion, my family, school, and the world have helped me follow my dreams and guided me to make the right decisions. Nobody’s perfect we all make mistakes, that we learn from. Set goals for yourself, and just keep striving to succeed.
